It will be a Blue September at Officeworks Hervey Bay - but all for a great cause.

Starting this Father's Day weekend, Officeworks is hosting a range of in-store activities to raise funds to beat men's cancer.

Officeworks team members will be offering blue face painting and a variety of activities for children this weekend in return for a hold coin.

Customers will be able to give to the cause for the entire month, by making a donation at the checkout, with all funds going to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Bowel Cancer Australia.

Blue September is designed to help men reduce the risk of developing cancer by making better lifestyle choices.

Australian Cancer Foundation chief executive officer David Brettell said that in many cases, male cancer deaths can be prevented.

"With more than 22,000 Australian men dying of cancer each year, Blue September promotes prevention through a healthier lifestyle and encourags men to face up to cancer," Mr Brettell said.

Officeworks Hervey Bay store manager Jodie McAnelly said that Officeworks was proud to get behind Blue September.

"If we can encourage our male customers and team members to get a check-up and think about making healthy choices, that can only be a good thing," Ms Brettell said.
