Kevin Biggin, CEO of Biggin and Scott, took time out of his busy schedule to throw his support behind Blue September for 2010. Kevin encouraged people to ‘face up to men’s cancer’ by having his face painted blue and talked about why looking a bit ridiculous was a small sacrifice for such a worthwhile cause. It is the second year that Biggin and Scott, one of Victoria’s largest Real Estate agencies, have supported the campaign, doing their part to help raise awareness and funds for men’s cancers.
"I had a partner of mine who died from prostate cancer and he was 59. The issue has always been there,” Kevin said, explaining some of his motivation for supporting the cause as his face was being painted.
“I’m not the only one that supports Blue September. At Biggin and Scott all of our directors, managers and sales people, we all support it, because we believe it will make a difference. We have Blue September on all of our boards, all of our brochures, in our Abode (Magazine), we talk about it in the office, we talk about it at all of our meetings… If we can just get half a dozen fellows to have a test and come back and say that because of Blue September and meeting your staff, ‘I got a test’, I’d be thrilled, absolutely thrilled,” Kevin said, providing a fantastic example for other business leaders.
Having your face painted isn’t always the most comfortable experience, but by getting people out of their comfort zone and talking about men's cancers, people can help save lives, creating more chance of catching cancer early. Which is why by ‘facing up’ to men’s cancers, Kevin will be helping to make a real difference for Australian men.
Blue September is a national fundraising and awareness initiative, proudly supporting the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Bowel Cancer Australia. The goal is to raise funds for cancer research, as well as helping men reduce the risk of cancer by making healthy lifestyle choices.
