Victorian Minister for Health Daniel Andrews was on the Parliament steps for the official flick of the switch together with Mike Larkin from Network Ten who covered the event for the nightly Melbourne weather report (click here to view). Mike encouraged all Melbournians, through the camera, to support the campaign by going to blueseptember.org.
Blue September is a national fundraising and awareness initiative, with the goal of raising funds for cancer research, as well as helping men reduce the risk of cancer by making healthy lifestyle choices.
The residence will continue to be bathed in blue light every night from the 2nd of September until the 11th. It is part of a strategy encouraging people to ‘face up to men’s cancers’, by highlighting in blue the lack of awareness surrounding these insidious diseases, which in a third of cases are preventable.![]()
The Parliament House will be joined by other prominent landmarks and famous buildings turning blue throughout the month, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and also some international landmarks, including the iconic Capitol Records Building, the Ramada West Hollywood and the Roosevelt Hotel, all in California.
Some of the other well known celebrity and sports personalities who have turned blue in support of the campaign include Mark Holden, George Calombaris, Chris Judd and Rodger Corser.
