On the 3rd September a group of volunteers collected coins
(and
notes) in BLUE buckets from the crowds at the Cazalys AFL Semi
Finals and raised over $850 for their efforts!! The crowd was really receptive and the day was a great success!
The Cairns Reef Casino is now lit up in Blue for the entire month
of September.
Cupcakes and cocktails are being sold at Flinders bar and grill and
at Vertigos with proceeds being donated to Blue September.
Cazalys AFL Club continues to collect donations and run raffles for
their visitors, well done boys for keeping it up!
Carolyn’s next big event is the Ishmael Rd Blue BBQ to be held on 17th September, where they will sell snags, drinks, paint faces blue and Geoff Mann, a local bush poet and cancer survivor will perform. They also have a raffle going, as well as balloons and great prizes.
Other businesses, including The Mens Shed, Bills Marine, Abacus Shopfitting,
Bullsnips, The Rack’nStack Warehouse, Cairns Bulk Meats, Cobbers Crust
and Yorkeys Knob Golf Course are collecting funds by donation tins. Some businesses are holding internal events for example, Qantas in Cairns are
painting the bosses face Blue for the day, Q-Catering are holding internal
raffles, morning teas and a Blue BBQ, and Cairns Airport are holding a
public Blue BBQ at the Domestic Terminal on the 20th September.
Officeworks are accepting donations on behalf of Blue September,
as well as holding a 4 day event from 01 - 04 September including a
BBQ and face painting, plus much more.
Carolyn has the media backing Blue September, with coverage
on WIN Local News and Channel 7 News, plus radio stations including Far North Qld local ABC, and 846AM breaky show, all are promoting this worthy cause.
Carolyn’s aim is to exceed $5000 at least for our first effort in Cairns.
