ONLINE FUNDRAISER, PHIL ESSAM WALKS TIL HE’S BLUE IN THE FACE!

On Sep 17th, 49 year old Canberra resident, Phil Essam walked 6 hours for Blue September.

Phil decided after getting two bladder stones removed and a low grade tumour in April that he was going to do a 6 hour walk in September and would also like to raise some awareness for men’s health and funds towards vital cancer research.  Phil had done some previous walks over the
years, but due to letting his own fitness slip and the bladder problem he had not done much over the preceding 18 months. 6 hours was going to be a good first up test!

After an extensive Google search, Blue September seemed theobvious choice.  So after mostly an internet fundraising campaign, the day of the walk came around and so did the perfect Canberra spring weather.  Phil did the walk at Lennox Gardens along with two other members of the ACT Walking Club.

Phil completed 33.75kms in his six hours and was more than happy with his performance. At this stage he has raised close to $400 for the cause.  Phil is looking forward to improving his fitness over the coming years and hopefully doing more for Blue September in 2012.
